First, bring filtered water to a boil. You can either use a kettle or a pot and a stovetop.
While the water is coming to a boil, cut the lemon into wedges or slices and remove the seeds. If you prefer a stronger lemon flavour, leave ¼ - ½ of the lemon unsliced for squeezing.Next, peel the ginger and chop it into small chunks.
For a stronger lemon flavour, squeeze the juice from the unsliced part of the lemon and pour it into a mug or teapot. Add the chopped ginger and lemon slices. Then, pour the boiled water over and let it infuse for 3 - 5 minutes. If you are putting the lemon and ginger directly into your mug, you can leave it in as you sip.If making it in a teapot, pour the ginger lemon tea into a mug after infusing and garnish with an extra slice of lemon.
Notes
Don’t have ginger root? You can use 1 teaspoon of ground ginger instead.Add raw honey to make a throat-soothing tea and add more immune-supporting nutrients. I usually use about ½ teaspoon but you can add up to 1 teaspoon if you like it sweeter.Add cinnamon for some natural sweetness and extra warmth. You can sprinkle some ground cinnamon in your mug or stir your fresh tea with a cinnamon stick.Use organic lemon and ginger to reduce exposure to toxins. Lemons are often waxed as a preservation method. So, organic is typically the safest choice, especially when using the rind.
