Those little Banana Pudding cups were always a favourite as a kid. It's one of those flavours that most either love or hate. For me, it was a definite love. However, I do not love the ingredients found in most commercially made puddings or instant pudding mixes.

So, naturally, when a craving hit, I went into creation mode. But, I have to admit, it didn't take very long to whip this one up! This healthified Banana Pudding is incredibly easy to make, requiring only 4 simple ingredients.

Plus, with its smooth, creamy texture and bold banana flavour, it's so satisfying and makes a delicious no-bake summer dessert.

I find that the easiest way to make it is with pre-made cashew cream, which provides natural thickness that doesn't require any setting or added thickeners.

What Makes This Banana Cream Pudding Healthy?

As mentioned above, this creamy, no-bake Banana Cream Pudding is made with a simple blend of 4 whole food ingredients. It's naturally sweetened and flavoured with real banana. So, it contains no added sugar, artificial flavour or pudding mixes. Additionally, it features a touch of turmeric powder, providing a nutritional boost.

    Health Benefits

Anti-inflammatory. The turmeric not only adds a touch of colour, but also a touch of anti-inflammatory compounds. Plus, this Pudding is free of many common ingredients that contribute to inflammation, including refined sugar, gluten, dairy, soy and cornstarch.

Vitamin and mineral-rich. Thanks to the real banana, cashews and turmeric, this pudding is a great source of vitamins and minerals, including potassium, calcium, vitamins A and C.

Free of added sugar. This Pudding contains no added or refined sugar. Instead, its sweetness comes purely from bananas. Which means the fibre present slows the release of glucose (sugar) into the bloodstream, causing a much more stable and steady rise.

No artificial flavours or colours. Again, this Pudding is made with only real food ingredients. It contains no weird fillers, binders, gums, or artificial colours or flavours!

    Seasonal Benefits

Summer is a great season to enjoy this simple, no-bake dessert and the cooling properties of bananas.

How to Make Banana Cream Pudding With Real Bananas

Making scratch-made Banana Cream Pudding with real bananas couldn't be easier! This recipe is simply bananas blended with cashew cream, pure vanilla extract and a touch of turmeric. Follow the steps below or watch the video.

Two cups of banana yellow pudding topped with toasted cashews. The pudding cups are surrounded by dropped cashews pieces, a bowl of cashews and a linen cloth.

    Step 1: Measure Ingredients

First, add the cashew cream to a blender or food processor. Next, add the ripe bananas, pure vanilla extract, and turmeric powder

I should note that this Banana Cream Pudding does have a subtle turmeric flavour. So, if you're not one for the taste or are making this recipe for the little ones, you can reduce the amount to ⅛ teaspoon or omit it completely. That being said, the less turmeric you add, the lighter the colour will be.

    Step 2: Blend

Place the lid on your blender and blend on a medium setting until smooth. It should only take about 15 - 30 seconds.

A blender jug filled with banana, turmeric powder, vanilla extract and cashew cream.
A blender jug full of freshly blended vegan banana pudding.

Once your Banana Pudding is smooth and creamy, pour it into individual cups or bowls to serve immediately.

This recipe yields a generous batch that can serve 4 - 6 people. So, if you won't be using it all right away, store any leftovers in an airtight container and keep it refrigerated.

Enjoy this Pudding on its own, top with roasted nuts or layer it with oat flour graham crackers to keep it gluten-free. It's also delicious topped with cacao nibs, goji berries, and coconut flakes!

    My Top Tips

    • Avoid overblending for the freshest banana flavour. Blending for too long can cause the pudding to heat, which slightly changes the flavour.
    • Use ripe bananas for the boldest banana flavour and optimal sweetness.

    Substitutions & Variations

Omit or reduce the turmeric powder if you are making this for kids or dislike the flavour.

Use cashew yogurt in place of the cashew cream for a probiotic-rich version.

Vanilla powder can be used as a substitute for vanilla extract.

How Long Does No-Bake Banana Cream Pudding Last?

Since this is a no-bake Pudding made with fresh bananas and no added sugar, it is best enjoyed the day it's made. However, it can last up to 48 hours in the fridge if it is sealed in an airtight container.

    FAQs

Can this Homemade Banana Pudding be Frozen?

I find that freezing this Blended Banana Pudding changes the texture after it is thawed, so it is best enjoyed fresh. However, you can freeze it to enjoy it as a frozen treat. If freezing, seal it in a freezer-safe container and use within 3 months.

Does this Banana Cream Pudding need to set?

No, this simple, no-bake Banana Pudding is made with a blend of thick cashew cream and fresh bananas, so it can be enjoyed immediately after making. There is no need for it to set.

How long can Fresh Banana Pudding sit out?

Since this Banana Pudding is a blended, no-bake version with fresh banana, it should not be left out at room temperature for longer than 30 minutes to an hour. It is best kept sealed in an airtight container in the fridge.
